Washington - When Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)" chamber="house" mcid="B000589"] announced his resignation, he promised to "clean the barn up" before he stepped down at the end of October. According to reports, Boehner is now working with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)" chamber="senate" mcid="M000355"], congressional Democrats and the Obama administration to break the 2011 budget caps (again), increase the debt limit by $1.5 trillion and address a number of outstanding special interest priorities, including potentially restarting the now-defunct Export-Import Bank. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:
"In Washington cleaning the barn is apparently synonymous with shoveling manure on the American people. John Boehner is clearly a rogue agent negotiating on behalf of well-connected special interests, not the voters that gave him the gavel. Heritage Action will strongly oppose any budget deal that increases spending in the near-term for promises of woefully inadequate long-term reductions especially if that deal is tied to a long-term debt limit increase that does not contain the policies that get our nation on a path to balance."
