Press Releases · Apr 29, 2026

Washington, D.C.—Heritage Action today issued a Key Vote in support of an amendment to H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 (Farm Bill), advancing reforms that prioritize public health and rein in wasteful spending.

The following amendment will be included as a Key Vote on Heritage Action’s legislative scorecard:

  • SELF AMENDMENT #47 TO H.R. 7567: Prohibits the purchase of soft drinks with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, ensuring taxpayer-funded assistance is not directed towards sugary beverages that contribute to poor health outcomes and rising public health costs.

Daniel West, House Government Relations Director for Heritage Action released the following statement:

For too long, the farm bill has been used as a vehicle to expand welfare programs without any meaningful accountability measures. Heritage Action is proud to support amendments that align with the Trump Administration’s promise to ‘Make America Healthy Again.' Congress must take steps to ensure that programs steward taxpayer funds well and promote health and safety for local communities from farm to table.”

Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of Heritage Action added:

Preventing the purchase of soft drinks with SNAP benefits is a long-overdue reform. Taxpayers should not subsidize unhealthy food purchases that, in the end, create further strain on government-provided health services.”

By issuing a Key Vote on Rep. Keith Self’s (TX-03) amendment, lawmakers understand that their positions will affect their Heritage Action Scorecard ranking. The scorecard is a public record that holds members of Congress accountable to conservative principles.
