Washington, D.C.—Heritage Action today praised Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for signing into law a newly enacted congressional map passed by the Florida legislature, calling it decisive leadership in the effort to reject racial gerrymandering and restore fair representation.
The new map is likely to result in a net gain of up to four Republican-favored congressional seats heading into the 2026 midterm elections.
This victory in Florida comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which determined race cannot be used as a predominate factor in drawing congressional districts and clarified representation must be grounded in equal protection under the law.
Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of Heritage Action released the following statement:
“In the wake of the Louisiana v. Callais decision, Governor DeSantis and the Legislature acted to ensure Florida’s map reflects population growth and real communities, not racial engineering for the sake of political manipulation.”
James Quarles, Director of Advocacy & Engagement for Heritage Action added:
“With explosive population growth creating uneven districts, Florida’s new map finally delivers fair population balance while ending the racial gerrymandering the Supreme Court just ruled unconstitutional. It’s a model other states should follow for equal and fair representation.”
Heritage Action will continue working with state leaders and grassroots activists to support redistricting efforts ahead of the 2026 congressional midterm elections that comply with the U.S. Constitution and reflect fair representation for all Americans.
