Texas Democrats Bring Election Myths to Washington

Press Releases · Jun 15, 2021

WASHINGTON — Heritage Action, a national conservative grassroots organization, today issued a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson calling out Congressional Democratic leadership for flying Texas Democrats who blocked the passage of Texas’s election integrity bill, SB 7, to Washington to lobby for H.R. 1 and S. 1.

“For months now, Democrats in Washington have been recycling misleading talking points to intimidate Americans and push their own false narrative against common-sense election integrity efforts at the state level.

Democrats in Washington are becoming increasingly scared of grassroots efforts to secure our elections. That’s why Vice President Harris and Congressional Democrats have flown Texas lawmakers who blocked their own state’s election integrity bill up to Washington to lobby for S. 1, the Corrupt Politicians Act. But Americans know the truth. We will not be deterred.”

Background: Heritage Action has invested an initial $10 million into a campaign to support election integrity laws across eight states, including Texas. Heritage Action Sentinels and grassroots activists have worked hard to advance election laws in the state and have testified at legislative hearings in support of the legislation. Heritage Action is also running a digital ad campaign to educate grassroots supporters about the bill. S. 1/H.R. 1, the so-called “For the People Act,” was originally introduced in 2019 and passed the House before failing in the Senate. The act was reintroduced in 2021 and passed in the House. The bill, a sweeping federal overhaul of state and local election regulations, would direct public funds to fund political campaigns and politicians’ personal expenses, undermine basic voter protections, and threaten the security of our elections.
