Withdrawal of Chipman’s Nomination Proves the Power of Grassroots Conservatives

Press Releases · Sep 9, 2021

WASHINGTON — Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson made the following statement concerning the withdrawal of David Chipman’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

“David Chipman is a radical anti-Second Amendment activist who should have never been considered to lead the ATF. Chipman would have used his post to attack the constitutional rights of Americans across the country. Thanks to the millions of conservative activists who used their voices to stand up for their Second Amendment rights, President Biden was forced to pull his hand-picked nominee. This defeat proves the power of grassroots Americans and is a win for the Constitution and law-abiding gun owners across the country. Conservatives and senators must continue to oppose any ATF nominee who would attack the Second Amendment rights of American citizens.”

BACKGROUND:

  • Starting in July, Heritage Action called on our army of 2.1 million activists to urge their senators to vote NO on the confirmation of David Chipman.

  • Heritage Action released a key vote against the confirmation of David Chipman and planned to include the confirmation vote on our legislative scorecard.

  • Heritage Action activists have relentlessly fought against Biden’s radical nominees at every turn, and have called their senators in opposition to David Chipman, as well as Neera Tanden, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Xavier Becerra.
