Issue Toolkit:

Stop Biden’s Radical Nominees

Background information

As Joe Biden begins his presidency, he is tasked with filling his cabinet and choosing individuals to lead major government departments. Remember, people are policy—the individuals Biden picks to run these departments will help determine the direction of the country.

Currently, Biden’s selections for his Cabinet are simply too extreme for the American people. His effort to jam their confirmations through an evenly divided Senate proves his call for “unity” is a farce.

His nominees have demonstrated a disregard for the views of nearly half of the people of the United States and want to fundamentally alter their lives rather than bringing Americans together.

In particular, his selection of Alejandro Mayorkas to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Xavier Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, and Neera Tanden to lead the Office of Management and Budget should concern not only conservatives but all Americans.

The Nominees

Alejandro Mayorkas—Department of Homeland Security. As the DACA program architect and a leading advocate of amnesty, Mayorkas has pushed to admit millions of illegal immigrants and to grant citizenship for the 11 million or more illegal immigrants already in the US. During the Obama administration, Mayorkas served in the Department of Homeland Security as Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and then as Deputy Secretary. During this time, Obama’s Inspector General revealed that Alejandro Mayorkas gave green-cards to wealthy, well-connected Chinese nationals who had ties to Democratic Party Donors. These facts alone disqualify him from leading the Department of Homeland Security.

UPDATE: Mayorkas was confirmed on February 2.

Neera Tanden—Office of Management and Budget: As a key proponent of the Affordable Care Act and the former head of the Center for American Progress, Tandeen has been central to the most extreme left-wing policies. She is also known for repeatedly and viciously attacking sitting U.S. Senators — the same Senators she may need to support her confirmation (this is one reason she has quietly deleted over 1,000 tweets since being nominated). She would use the Office of Management and Budget as a choke point for federal policy, pushing a left-wing agenda behind the scenes by utilizing regulatory power to bypass lawmakers and implement the progressive agenda via executive edict.

UPDATE: In a victory for Conservatives, Tanden withdrew her name from consideration on March 3.

We must ensure Becerra is also NOT confirmed.

Xavier BecerraDepartment of Health and Human Services: Becerra’s only experience in healthcare is working to strip the Little Sisters of the Poor of religious exemptions by suing them for refusing to accept the Obamacare contraception mandate. That’s correct—Becerra sued nuns, who have been serving underprivileged American communities since 1868, for refusing to provide access to abortion because it violates their closely-held beliefs. Before he served as Attorney General of California, he served as a congressman for over 24 years. His lifetime score on the Heritage Action Scorecard is an astoundingly low 10%.

Rather than inspiring confidence in his calls for unity, President-elect Biden’s nominees seek to force a far-Left agenda on the American people and radically shift the direction of the country. Senators should carefully consider any Biden nominations and their agenda for America.

It is Congress’s role to set policy by passing law. Unfortunately, Congress has delegated way too much of that power to the unelected appointees who run the executive branch departments. Congress should rein in the executive branch’s unchecked power. And the first step is for the Senate to exercise its Constitutional “advise and consent” authority to reject any nominee who is too liberal and extreme for the American people. Unelected, Leftist radicals should not be setting policy for America.

Taking Action

These nominees want to force open borders, big government, and taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand on the American people, regardless of their views.

No Senator should support their nominations.

Slowing down confirmations can help restrict the Biden administration’s ability to issue new rules and regulations. While every Senator should be contacted, it will be key that Senators Manchin (D-W.Va.), Kelly (D-Ariz.), Sinema (D-Ariz.), Tester (D-Mont.), Warnock (D-Ga.), and Ossoff (D-Ga.) especially hear from constituents.

>> Take Action: Urge your Senators to oppose the nominations of Alejandro Mayorkas to the Department of Homeland Security, Neera Tanden to the Office of Management and Budget, and Xavier Becerra to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Alejandro Mayorkas wouldn’t run the Department of Homeland Security—he’d run it into the ground. His priority is amnesty and wealthy globalists, not securing our nation’s border. [MEMBER], I call on you to oppose his confirmation.

.[MEMBER], Xavier Becerra has little to no experience in health care. What he has done, however, is sue Catholic nuns to try and force them to pay for abortions. Becerra isn’t pro-choice...he’s pro-abortion...and way too radical for America.
