WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative organization with 2.5 million grassroots activists nationwide, including thousands of Kansans, commended the Kansas Legislature’s passage of SB 6, legislation that bans ranked-choice voting (RCV) from state elections.
Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement:
“RCV is a confusing system designed to disenfranchise voters and elevate unpopular candidates—it has no place in Kansas elections. By passing SB 6, lawmakers have prioritized the interests of Kansans and joined a growing movement of states across the country fighting to secure their elections.
“Heritage Action commends the Kansas Legislature for passing SB 6 and ensuring that Kansans’ votes are fairly counted at the ballot box. We urge Governor Kelly to sign this crucial legislation and we look forward to working alongside grassroots Americans to eliminate RCV nationwide.”
Kansas currently ranks 16th out of 51 on The Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard. This month, the Kansas Legislature passed House Bill 2106, legislation that prohibits foreign funding of state ballot measures.
