Heritage Action: Oklahoma’s HB 4156 Fights Biden’s Border Chaos

Press Releases · Apr 23, 2024

WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, including thousands of Oklahomans, applauds the Oklahoma Legislature for combating the illegal immigration crisis by passing HB 4156. The bill protects Oklahomans by banning sanctuary cities and making illegal immigration a crime enforceable by local and state officials.

Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus commended lawmakers, saying:

President Biden’s immigration policies are fueling lawlessness at our southern border and dangerous consequences for Oklahomans. Americans are pleading for stronger border security, and state lawmakers have stepped up in the absence of leadership from Washington.

“Heritage Action commends Speaker McCall and Pro Tem Treat for their leadership on this bill, and the Oklahoma Legislature for standing up for Americans and the rule of law by passing HB 4156. We look forward to working alongside concerned Americans across the country to follow Oklahoma’s lead and fight Biden’s border crisis.”

Due to the catastrophe at the border caused by the Biden administration, the number of Americans who support tougher immigration restrictions has been steadily increasing. Three-fourths of Americans—a bipartisan majority—now believe the situation at the border is ‘a crisis’ or ‘very serious,’ while only 7% view it as ‘not much of a problem.’

Last year, Border Patrol agents encountered thousands of illegal aliens with prior criminal convictions, including assault, rape, and murder. In 2021, the DOJ admitted that 64% of federal arrests in 2018 involved noncitizens, despite them comprising only 7% of the population at that time.

Heritage Action strongly supports H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, as the only federal solution to secure the border and ending the Biden-designed crisis that’s exacerbating the drug, crime, and cost of living crises facing the country.
