WASHINGTON — Heritage Action, a national conservative grassroots organization, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson following the failed party-line vote in the Senate to advance to S. 2747, the ‘Freedom to Cheat’ Act.
For months, state legislators across the country have fought to pass commonsense protections like voter ID that make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. Today’s vote on S. 2747 is yet another example of Senate Democrats creating a political charade around their anti-voter agenda that is out of touch with Americans and in direct opposition to the work state lawmakers have accomplished to secure elections.
The outcome of today’s partisan vote is expected because there is no widespread support for their federal election takeover. Democrats have gotten up to bat time after time and have continued to strike out—first seeking to undo the work of these states with their signature legislation, the ‘Corrupt Politicians’ Act (S. 1), which failed to receive enough support from the Left to pass the Senate. The ‘Freedom to Cheat’ Act (S. 2747) is no different—this bill failed today because it is so blatantly partisan. Just like S. 1, this bill guts protections like voter ID that state legislators have put in place to protect their citizens’ right to vote.
Americans thank the conservatives in the Senate who stood up for election integrity and federalism by voting against the Left’s effort to federalize elections, overrule voter ID laws, and rig the rules to keep Democrats in power.
Background:
Earlier this week, Heritage Action released a comparison of the Senate election bills, S. 1 and S. 2747, writing, “Joe Biden and Democrat leadership in the House and Senate have pushed several bills in 2021 that would not only extinguish the efforts of the states, but federalize our elections and rig the rules in the Left’s favor. It is a blatant effort to ensure a partisan and progressive majority is elected for years to come.”
In June, Heritage Action released a statement responding to the cloture vote on the motion to proceed to S. 2093. Jessia Anderson said, “The Corrupt Politicians Act would be a disaster for election integrity, and is nothing more than an attempt to rig elections to keep Democrats in power. The American people saw through the Left’s anti-democratic election takeover and came out in force to oppose it.”
