Heritage Action Calls for Kansas to Put Kids’ Safety First and Override Gov. Kelly’s Outrageous Veto of SB 233

WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, including thousands of Kansans, today called for state lawmakers to override Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of SB 233, legislation that protects children from radical gender ideology by banning the practice and recommendation of experimental surgeries and dangerous cross-sex hormones.

Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement:

“Prohibiting sex-change surgeries and drugs for minors is a commonsense proposal supported by the vast majority of Americans. By vetoing SB 233, Governor Kelly chose a radical political agenda over the wellbeing of our state’s kids, ignoring the irreversible damage caused by so-called ‘gender affirming’ medicine. In the absence of her leadership, lawmakers should step up and override her veto as soon as possible.

“Everyone who cares about the mental and physical health of children in Kansas has a duty to protect them by ensuring SB 233 becomes law. Heritage Action urges lawmakers in the Sunflower State to put kids first and overturn Gov. Kelly’s outrageous veto of SB 233.”

The Kansas Legislature’s passage of SB 233 is part of a wave of similar provisions passing across the country and around the world as parents wake up to the undeniable dangers of sex-changing drugs and surgeries.

Polling shows broad, bipartisan support for the legislation in Kansas. More than 65% of Americans oppose access to puberty-blocking medication for children.
