WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released a statement from Acting Executive Director Ryan Walker commending the Iowa Legislature and Governor Kim Reynolds for passing and enacting HF 732.
“As pro-abortion activists and organizations continue to challenge pro-life laws in the courts, states like Iowa are leading the charge in fighting back. Following a special session, the Iowa Legislature and Governor Reynolds passed and enacted HF 732, legislation to protect unborn babies once a heartbeat is detected. This policy will be crucial in protecting unborn babies and their mothers from the extremism of the pro-abortion lobby.
Heritage Action commends Governor Reynolds for her leadership in calling a special session to ensure life is protected in the Hawkeye State. Grassroots Iowans are grateful to the Iowa Legislature, House Speaker Pat Grassley, and Senate President Amy Sinclair for their swift action and work to uphold the state’s pro-life values. With HF 732, Iowa adds to the growing list of over two dozen states working to protect life in the year since the historic Dobbs decision. Heritage Action looks forward to working alongside grassroots Americans to get even more laws on the books to preserve the sanctity of life.”
BACKGROUND:
The special session came after the Iowa Supreme Court deadlocked 3-3 on a case considering the state's previously passed 6-week heartbeat bill law, thus blocking the policy from going into effect. Governor Reynolds, criticizing the court's deadlock, indicated that she will continue the fight to protect the unborn until a strong pro-life law is enacted.
