Trump Administration Considering Religious Freedom Protections

Press Releases · Feb 1, 2017

WASHINGTON—This morning at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Donald Trump pledged his administration "will do everything in its power to defend and protect religious liberty." A draft Executive Order under consideration would go a long way towards delivering on that promise. Heritage Action released the following statement:

"It is encouraging that the Trump Administration is considering much needed action to ensure federal agencies protect religious freedom. There are attempts by the political left to demonize, misrepresent and derail this effort, but the Administration and lawmakers should do everything in their power to extend these important protections."

The Heritage Foundation's Ryan T. Anderson explains the draft "executive order is good policy and entirely lawful." He continued:

"These protections take nothing away from anyone-they simply ensure that the public square remains open to all religious voices, even when those voices diverge from the government's view on contested questions. They protect diversity and pluralism and tolerance."
