Statement on President Obama's Affordable Care Act Speech

Press Releases · Oct 19, 2016

Washington -- This afternoon President Obama laid out his plan to fix the failing Affordable Care Act. Rather than focusing on skyrocketing health care premiums, shrinking healthcare options and the threat of Obamacare bailouts, he encouraged young, uninsured Americans to enroll in a broken system.

Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

President Obama is misleading the American people by claiming that we can solve the problems of Obamacare by increasing enrollment.
It's time to put an end to the failing Affordable Care Act. Congress should make every effort possible to move toward a full repeal of Obamacare. This starts with allowing key provisions to expire during the remaining legislative period in 2016. In the coming months, Congress must let temporary programs end as scheduled, specifically the Transitional Reinsurance and Temporary Risk Corridors Programs and block any backdoor payments to the insurance companies.

Since 2009, conservatives have known that Obamacare is unaffordable and unworkable. Heritage Action will continue the fight to repeal this failing bill and ensure we have a health care system that works for all Americans.
