Washington—This morning, the Senate passed its version of a sweeping overhaul of our nation’s tax code, moving America one step closer to achieving major reform for the first time in more than three decades. While the proposal changed in some notable ways over the past week, it retained important key elements from the Senate Finance Committee draft that Heritage Action strongly supported and as a result will be included on the legislative scorecard. Heritage Action released the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Needham:
Today, Senate Republicans demonstrated an ability to govern and deliver on long-standing campaign promises. They should be proud of the work they’ve done, as the bill will provide relief to small business, help Americans keep more of their hard-earned dollars, and spur additional economic growth.
After today’s vote, we are firmly on track to enact sweeping tax reform. Heritage Action will continue to work with lawmakers to make sure President Trump can sign a bill into law that spurs economic growth, increases wages for American workers, and creates jobs.
