WASHINGTON — Today, Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson released a statement following the news that Senate Democrats are considering nuking the filibuster to suspend the debt ceiling to pay for their multitrillion-dollar spending bill.
Since January, leftists have been looking for a way to gut the filibuster and force their extreme agenda on the country. Now, Democrats are floating a so-called ‘carve out’ to the filibuster, which is simply nuking the filibuster by another name. The Left will use this bait-and-switch scheme every time they deem something a ‘crisis’ until they nuke the filibuster entirely and enact their radical vision for the country.
Democrats are attempting to use partisan tools to pass their $3.5 trillion tax-and-spending spree; those same tools are available to pass a debt ceiling increase. It is a lie to say those tools are in any way inadequate.
But these big government socialists know how unpopular their bill is and don’t want to own the crippling debt it would create. Democrats should be honest with the American people about how much money they are spending and how much debt they are heaping on the backs of our children and grandchildren.
