Obama Promises a "Moderate" Supreme Court Justice

Press Releases · Feb 24, 2016

Washington -- According to reports, President Obama told Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) that he would nominate a "moderate" to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Scalia's passing. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

"I am not sure how Barack Obama would define a 'moderate', but even so there is no reason to ignore the voice of the American people who are in the process of selecting their next president. That individual -- Republican or Democrat -- should be in the position to fill the Court's vacancy with the advice and consent of the Senate."
