Washington - Following the news of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's passing on Saturday, President Obama demanded a "timely vote" to confirm his future nominee. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:
"Justice Scalia was a patriot, and truly one of the finest Supreme Court justices in our nation's history. While we mourn his loss, we must also ensure that what he strived for - fidelity to the Constitution - is not swept aside by this radical administration.
"Senator McConnell is right, under no circumstance should the Republican Senate majority confirm a Supreme Court nominee as Americans are in the midst of picking the next president.
"Republican rhetoric condemning President Obama's willful disregard for the rule of law will ring hollow if they do confirm a nominee. That will have drastic implications for the future of our nation."
