North Carolina General Assembly Protects Unborn Lives by Overriding Governor’s Veto of SB 20

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of North Carolinians, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson praising the North Carolina General Assembly’s override of Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of SB 20, legislation that protects the lives of unborn babies from 12-weeks’ gestation when science shows babies can feel pain.

“Governor Roy Cooper’s radical veto of SB 20 is completely out of touch with North Carolinians’ pro-life and pro-women values. This bill protects mothers and saves the lives of unborn babies from 12 weeks in the womb, a stage of development when they can feel pain. Thanks to the North Carolina General Assembly’s override of Governor Cooper’s veto, SB 20 will become law and defend unborn babies by prohibiting North Carolina medical providers from performing abortions after the first trimester of pregnancy.

North Carolina mothers and their unborn babies should receive compassionate care and support instead of being coerced into having an abortion that will cause lifelong harm. Heritage Action thanks House Speaker Tim Moore, Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, and the entire North Carolina General Assembly for passing SB 20 and overriding Governor Cooper’s veto. Following this historic victory, grassroots North Carolinians will continue fighting to protect life in the Tar Heel State.”
