New HHS Rule Protects Life and Rights of Conscience

Press Releases · Dec 20, 2019

Washington—Heritage Action released the following statement from Vice President Jessica Anderson:

Heritage Action applauds the Trump administration for implementing a new Department of Health and Human Services rule to restrict taxpayer money from subsidizing abortions. This rule will require insurance companies to provide Obamacare Exchange enrollees with a separate bill for the portion of their insurance premium that goes towards abortion coverage.

Leftists will decry this rule because it creates price transparency for consumers, reminding them that a portion of their insurance premiums are being used to fund the abortion industry.

In truth, the HHS rule is in line with what American’s want: It addresses one of Obamacare’s many problems by fulfilling the spirit of the long-standing, bipartisan Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding for abortion.

The Trump Administration won many pro-life victories in 2019 — this rule caps off the year by protecting the rights of conscience for the majority of Americans who don’t want to pay for abortions. We look forward to more of the same in 2020.
