Missouri S.B. 4 Protects First Amendment Rights of Students and Teachers Who Oppose CRT

Press Releases · Feb 7, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Missourians, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson supporting the passage of S.B. 4, legislation that promotes transparency in schools, prohibits compelled speech and discrimination against students and teachers who reject CRT, and establishes funding for schools dependent upon compliance with non-discrimination laws.

“CRT is one of the latest political tools the Left uses to indoctrinate children by teaching them racist and discriminatory curricula. Students and teachers who do not support these views are often punished and may even lose their jobs. If passed, S.B. 4 would protect students and teachers’ First Amendment rights and would prevent schools from implementing discriminatory practices that violate established civil rights laws.

S.B. 4 would not only prohibit compelled speech and discrimination against those who do not comply with the Left’s divisive CRT agenda, it would also establish an enforcement mechanism that ties a portion of school funding to compliance with this anti-discrimination law. Heritage Action thanks Senator Andrew Koening for sponsoring S.B. 4 and giving students, parents, and teachers the freedom to speak out against CRT’s harmful ideology. We urge the Missouri Senate to pass this legislation and look forward to working alongside grassroots Missourians to fight back against radical indoctrination.”
