WASHINGTON – Today, Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released a statement from Acting Executive Director Ryan Walker in support of the short-term continuing resolution deal proposed by the House Freedom Caucus and the Main Street Caucus.
“The short-term spending deal put forth by members of the House Freedom Caucus and Main Street Caucus is an important step forward in the fight to secure the border and restore fiscal sanity in Washington. Combining a meaningful 8% cut to non-defense discretionary spending with nearly all of the provisions from the House-passed H.R. 2 border security package, this deal achieves major policy victories while giving conservatives the best possible negotiating position for long-term spending cuts and reforms.
This House deal is a productive first step in keeping the federal budget accountable to the American people. Lawmakers must follow through on their promises to secure the border by supporting this spending agreement. Not only would this deal deliver on key border security policies, but it would also force the White House and Democrats to choose between continuing their self-inflicted crisis at the border or shutting down the government.
Though much more work is needed to right-size the federal government spending and fully reverse Biden’s open border policies, this deal is an important step in the right direction. The House must continue to fight to secure the border and for more, permanent spending cuts to reduce our ruinous deficit and debt, curb inflation that is hurting American families, and rein in the woke and weaponized government.”
