Washington -- The House was scheduled to consider the Secure Our Borders First Act of 2015 (H.R. 399), introduced by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), but the bill was pulled from consideration this afternoon. According to reports, some Republicans viewed the bill as a way of "escaping their political jam on immigration" by allowing them to avoid a prolonged fight over blocking President Obama's executive amnesty. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:
"The McCaul border bill had become a shiny object, distracting nearly everyone in Washington from the fight over the President's dangerous and unlawful amnesty. The House was right to pull the bill. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over the executive branch. Advancing any immigration measure, even border security, before reining in this lawless President is putting the cart before the horse."
