WASHINGTON—Heritage Action for America President Dr. Kevin Roberts criticized Senate Democrats in Congress today for slow-walking the confirmation of President Trump’s cabinet nominees.
Dr. Kevin Roberts commented on the situation:
“Senate Democrats are actively jeopardizing our national security by blocking and delaying confirmation of President Trump’s nominees. This isn’t just petty politics—it’s dangerous. Every delay undermines our ability to defend the country and puts American lives at risk.
“After the American people rejected the Uniparty’s disastrous agenda on November 5th, you’d think they’d change course. But instead, they’re doubling down on obstructionism, proving once again that their agenda isn’t about protecting you—it’s about scoring cheap political points.
“Let’s be clear: their political stunts are not harmless—they are reckless. Congress must act immediately to confirm President Trump’s nominees and put the safety of everyday Americans above partisan nonsense.”
Heritage Action Executive Vice President Ryan Walker commented:
"Once again, Senate Democrats are showing their true colors by obstructing the confirmation of President Trump's Cabinet nominees. These delays aren’t just political games—they are a direct attack on President Trump’s mandate delivered by the American people in November. Senate Democrats are standing in the way of executing President Trump’s agenda by blocking qualified individuals who will work to rebuild our economy, secure our borders, and deliver a prosperous America.
“Ultimately, Democrats must stop playing politics with the safety and security of the American people. It's time for Senate Democrats to stop stonewalling and start working to confirm these nominees without further delay.”
BACKGROUND:
Historically, especially under President Biden, the Senate has agreed to “time agreements” which allow for votes to take place sooner than the minority party is technically allowed to delay the votes. For example, President Biden had a number of nominees confirmed in his first week as president (Director of National Intelligence, Secretary of Defense, and Secretary of State) because parties have typically recognized the importance of getting national security roles confirmed as soon as possible.
The Democrats actions this week show that they are not concerned with national security and they are acting in stark contrast to Republicans when President Biden took office. Then, Republicans voted on and passed a waiver to allow Lloyd Austin to be Secretary of Defense, in addition to confirming him, all in the first week of President Biden’s term.
