Heritage Action Supports House Ways & Means Legislation Expanding HSAs

Press Releases · Jul 25, 2018

Washington—This week, the House will vote on a package of health insurance reform bills to expand the size and scope of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). First signed into law in 2003, HSAs empower patient control over their own health care choices and are now used by over 20 million individuals nationwide. The three bills voted on this week will increase choice and help lower costs for the everyday American struggling to afford health insurance because of Obamacare.

Heritage Action released the following statement from Executive Director Tim Chapman:

While Democrats defend Obamacare’s unpopular individual mandate and taxes, and push for a government controlled single-payer system, Republicans are working hard to expand consumer choice, lower costs, and mitigate the damage of government overreach in the health care marketplace. The reforms contained in these bills demonstrate that Republicans are committed to empowering the patient, while Democrats are committed to empowering Washington bureaucrats.

Heritage Action supports H.R. 184, H.R. 6199, and H.R. 6311 as good steps to help fix our nation’s broken health care system. Republicans in Congress, particularly in the Senate, must take action as soon as possible to fulfill their commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare.
