Heritage Action Supports Chairman Miller, Urges Fiscally Responsible Approach to VA

Press Releases · Jun 29, 2014

Washington -- Although lawmakers are home for their Fourth of July recess, House and Senate negotiators continue working toward an agreement to revamp the Department of Veterans Affairs. Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL), chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, rejected the Senate's emergency spending approach and urged the conference committee to offset any new spending. Heritage Action released the following statement from chief executive officer Michael A. Needham:

"The treatment of our veterans has rightly shocked the public, but Congress should resist the temptation to do what it always does in these situations: throw money at the problem. Heritage Action supports Chairman Miller's call to offset any additional spending and force the VA to justify those requests. There is no doubt Congress must act, but it must do so in a fiscally responsible manner that ensures veterans receive the care they deserve."
