WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative organization with 2.5 million grassroots activists nationwide, including thousands of Kansans, commended the Kansas House’s passage of House Bill 2106, legislation that prohibits foreign funding of state ballot measures.
Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement:
“Prohibiting foreign nationals from contributing to constitutional amendment measures ensures Kansans’ voices are not diluted, and decisions about Kansas’ Constitution are based on the voices of its citizens – not foreign billionaires. Protecting election integrity is crucial, and states must safeguard their elections from foreign funding that seeks to undermine the democratic process.
“Heritage Action commends Rep. Pat Proctor and the Kansas House for passing HB 2106 - a strong bill to ensure Kansas elections are free from foreign funding and the voices of citizens in the Sunflower State are not diluted. We look forward to working alongside grassroots Americans to secure state elections nationwide.”
As reported by Honest Elections Project Action, foreign interests influencing our elections is not just a hypothetical problem. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has given hundreds of millions of dollars to the New Venture Fund, which is a major financial backer of the left’s new private election funding scheme, the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence. According to recent polling, 78% of Americans agree that foreign nationals should not be influencing our elections.
Kansas currently ranks 16th out of 51 on The Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard.
