WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, including thousands of Virginians, applauded Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s veto of SB 428, legislation that would have expanded the use of ranked-choice voting (RCV) in state elections.
Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement praising Governor Youngkin’s commitment to election integrity:
“Despite what the Left says, RCV is a gimmick that undermines our democratic process, disenfranchises voters, and makes it harder to vote. By vetoing SB 428 and rejecting an expansion of RCV in his state, Governor Youngkin defended free and fair elections for all Virginians.
“Heritage Action commends Governor Youngkin and looks forward to working alongside grassroots Americans in Virginia and across the country to build on the nationwide momentum to strengthen election integrity.”
The Left is pouring money into states across the country to implement RCV and other measures that weaken the integrity of our elections. RCV makes voting less accurate and more confusing—often undermining the democratic process by rewarding candidates that fail to earn the support of a majority of voters. Heritage Action strongly opposes its use and is advocating against RCV across the country.
Prior to the veto of SB 428, Virginia ranked 24th out of 51 on The Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard.
