Heritage Action: ‘Out-of-Touch’ Senate Prioritized Foreign Aid, House Must Put Americans First

Press Releases · Feb 13, 2024

WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, released the following statement from Executive Vice President Ryan Walker following Senate passage of President Joe Biden’s supplemental funding request, which Heritage Action opposed by issuing a Key Vote ‘No’ last week:

“Our borders are overrun and hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet—and the Senate just voted to spend nearly 100 billion additional, unbudgeted taxpayer dollars on foreign wars. What a disastrous example of the Swamp’s out-of-touch obsession with prioritizing everyone and everything over the American people.

“The Biden administration’s incoherent policies and Washington’s addiction to overspending have created a catastrophe at the border and financial hardship for hardworking people across the country. Those are the two issues Congress should be focused on fixing, but senators shamefully put illegal immigrants and foreign wars over the people they swore to serve.

“Thankfully, Speaker Johnson announced this reckless, unaccountable foreign aid package will not survive in the House. Congress has a duty to put Americans first. If any version of this package moves forward, it should prioritize American interests. We must have real reform to secure our own border, pay for aid without going into more debt, debate each priority separately, and include full accountability and transparency for taxpayers.”

Heritage Action announced strong opposition to the Biden-Schumer foreign funding package last week. Based on analysis from national security and budget experts at The Heritage Foundation, Heritage Action warned lawmakers that the supplemental package is reckless and irresponsible, putting the American people last.
