WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with 2.5 million activists nationwide, released the following statement from Executive Vice President Ryan Walker ahead of Congress’s vote on a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government into the new year:
“Since August, Heritage Action’s army of grassroots conservatives has been advocating for a short-term government funding deal to allow the next administration and Congress to make its own decisions on how to spend their tax dollars. With a continuing resolution through March 2025, this bill achieves the first goal to clear the path for President Trump’s priorities to be enacted. However, this achievement has been undermined by the substantive policy changes and spending priorities included in this bill from retiring and defeated lawmakers and an unaccountable, outgoing President.
“Despite attempts to avert the typical holiday omnibus, this bill—no longer a clean CR into the new year—was loaded up with significant policy changes and spending increases, written behind closed-doors, and without proper input from the American people. This bill hands out billions to farmers that are not paid for with offsets from wasteful spending elsewhere in the government, a long-debated and unpopular congressional pay increase, full authorization of funding for the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and a provision that zeros out Biden’s PAYGO scorecard—eliminating accountability and the required spending reduction to pay down Democrat-led deficits. The measure also includes emergency supplemental spending that goes beyond the President’s request without assurances that the resources will be directed toward the needs of actual American citizens.
“Members of Congress have not been given ample time to read and review this bill’s consequences. Heritage Action strongly opposes this continuing resolution.”
