Washington, D.C.—Heritage Action today issued a Key Vote against the motion to discharge H.Res. 518, as well as the underlying bill, H.R. 2913, the Ukraine Support Act.
This outdated and misleading Ukraine aid bill, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (NY-05), would authorize international sanctions and additional taxpayer assistance related to the Ukraine-Russia conflict furthering U.S. involvement in the conflict.
In his second term, President Trump has worked to de-escalate the Russia-Ukraine conflict and has not called on Congress to advance any legislative package related to the war. Since the conflict began, Congress has approved more than $175 billion in aid to Ukraine under the weak Biden administration, yet the conflict persists. Congress should support President Trump’s pursuit of peace—not advance a rogue Democrat-led bill that undercuts the administration’s efforts and prolongs America’s involvement in the war.
Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of Heritage Action released the following statement:
“President Trump is working to bring peace to the region, yet this rogue bill directly undermines his administration by advancing the failed agenda of the foreign policy establishment. The American people delivered an America First mandate. It’s high time Washington listened.”
Daniel West, House Government Relations Director at Heritage Action, added:
“It’s unacceptable for some House Republicans to advance this Democrat-led bill to send more taxpayer dollars to Ukraine while Americans are demanding action on affordability, mass deportations, and ending rampant fraud in federal programs. This is just the latest test of whether lawmakers are standing firm to advance what matters to their voters or distracted trying to dabble in grand strategy.”
By issuing a Key Vote, lawmakers are notified that their position on this vote will affect their score on the Heritage Action Scorecard, which shows voters and activists where conservative lawmakers are by comparing their policy positions to those of Heritage Action.
