Heritage Action Hails Kentucky General Assembly’s Work to Secure Elections, Calls on Kentuckians to ‘Finish the Job’

WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million activists nationwide, including thousands of Kentuckians, applauds the Kentucky General Assembly’s passage of SB 143, a constitutional amendment that keeps voting power in the hands of Americans by ensuring only U.S. citizens are able to vote in elections. The provision, which is subject to final approval via statewide vote, will appear on the ballot in Kentucky this November.

Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement hailing the passage of the bill and encouraging Kentuckians to enshrine the measure in the state’s constitution:

“Kentuckians deserve secure elections and representatives who best fit their values. The Left’s push to allow—and encourage—non-citizens to vote is a dangerous and cynical ploy to influence election outcomes at the expense of American citizens. SB143 prohibits this specific kind of election interference by ensuring that only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote.

“Heritage Action commends Senate President Robert Stivers, House Speaker David Osborne, and all of the bill’s cosponsors for fighting for fair, free, and secure elections. We look forward to encouraging and working alongside Kentuckians to finish the job this November and protect elections in the Bluegrass State for generations to come.”

The Left’s attempts to implement noncitizen voting in states across the country undermines the democratic process and the privilege of American citizenship. SB 143 is the first constitutional amendment prohibiting non-citizen voting to make its way through a state’s legislature this year, adding to nationwide momentum to secure elections. Heritage Action strongly supports defending election integrity across the country.

Kentucky currently ranks 14th out of 51 on The Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard.
