Heritage Action Calls for Senate Passage of SB 233, SB 222, and SB 266 Ahead of Crossover in Georgia General Assembly

Press Releases · Mar 1, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Georgians, released the following statement from Janae Stracke, Vice President of Field Operations, calling for Senate passage of SB 233, SB 222, and SB 266 ahead of the legislative crossover deadline.

“With the crossover deadline quickly approaching, the Senate must immediately pass SB 233, SB 222, and SB 266 to expand education freedom, secure elections in the state, and counter the Left’s woke ESG agenda.

SB 233 would give families the education flexibility they deserve by providing education savings accounts that could be used for private schools, tutoring, curricula and textbooks, and other school supplies. This allows families the options they need to ensure their children’s education best fits their unique needs.

SB 222 would keep Georgia’s elections free from outside influence by prohibiting local governments and officials from soliciting or accepting donations earmarked for election administration, and requiring any donations from outside organizations to be returned. Especially as political organizations like the Center for Civic Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) attempt to skirt existing laws and fund state elections, this bill will close loopholes and make sure it is easy to vote and hard to cheat in Georgia.

SB 266 would ensure the Employees’ and Teachers’ Retirement Systems of Georgia and the state’s asset managers remain focused on serving retirees by pursuing their financial interest instead of political agendas. Woke finance is hurting Georgians. Not only are asset managers and Left-wing activists using ESG standards to push a radical political agenda, but they are also doing it at the expense of American workers and retirees. This bill would ensure that asset managers and the public retirement system are putting the needs of Georgia families, workers, and industries first.

There is no time to waste. The Senate must pass these three important bills before the crossover deadline so the House can begin its consideration. Georgians are counting on their legislators to work to promote education freedom, secure state elections, and look out for retirees’ interests. Heritage Action encourages the Georgia Senate to swiftly consider and pass these bills.”
