WASHINGTON—Heritage Action, a conservative organization with 2.5 million grassroots activists nationwide, including thousands of Wyomingites, supports the Wyoming House’s passage of HB 0165 and HB 0337, legislation that strengthens state election integrity by banning the use of ranked-choice voting (RCV) and preventing foreign funding of state ballot initiatives, respectively.
Former Kansas Assistant Secretary of State and Heritage Action Director of State Advocacy Catherine Gunsalus released the following statement:
“Ranked-choice voting is nothing more than a gimmick that undermines our democratic process, disenfranchises voters, and makes it harder for Americans to have their voices heard. And Wyoming voters should be the ones determining the outcome of its constitution, not foreign nationals.
“The Wyoming House’s passage of HB 0165 and HB 0337 is an important step toward ensuring free, fair, and secure elections in the Cowboy State by protecting the state from RCV and foreign funding in ballot measures. Heritage Action applauds Wyoming representatives for empowering voters and urges the Senate to do the same.”
As reported by Honest Elections Project Action, foreign interests influencing our elections is not just a hypothetical problem. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has given hundreds of millions of dollars to the New Venture Fund, which is a major financial backer of the left’s new private election funding scheme, the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence. According to recent polling, 78% of Americans agree that foreign nationals should not be influencing our elections.
Prior to the Wyoming House’s passage of HB 0165 and HB 0337, The Heritage Foundation ranked Wyoming 33rd out of 51 in its Election Integrity Scorecard.
