WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson calling for the House passage of H.R. 140 as the first step in the fight against Big Tech censorship.
"From suppressing stories on Hunter Biden’s laptop to censoring information about COVID-19, it appears that government employees and political operatives have long colluded with Big Tech companies to silence conservatives. While House conservatives must continue their oversight efforts to investigate any claims or evidence of government employees weaponizing ‘content moderation’ processes for political purposes, passing H.R. 140 is an important first step in the effort to protect free speech for all Americans.
By prohibiting federal government employees from demanding social media firms remove or censor content because of a particular viewpoint or belief, this legislation would draw a clear line between the political forces within the federal government and the ability of the American people to speak freely in the public square. All Representatives should support this critical legislation as the starting point for a policy agenda that will protect free speech, ensure free and fair elections, and bring much-needed accountability to Big Tech companies."
