WASHINGTON — Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Arkansans, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson applauding Governor Sanders for signing SB 199, legislation which protects children and parents by classifying the administration of cross-sex hormones and experimental surgeries by doctors and health care professionals as medical malpractice.
“The Protecting Minors From Medical Malpractice Act is an important statement by the Governor and the General Assembly that dangerous cross-sex hormones and experimental surgeries are medical malpractice and do not qualify as acceptable care for minors in Arkansas. Now officially signed into law, this legislation ensures transparency and accountability in a field of medicine that is increasingly under scrutiny for its unproven and irreversible elements.
When a child is struggling, they shouldn’t be treated like a science experiment – they need compassionate care. Body-altering procedures, such as cross-sex hormones and surgeries that remove or severely alter healthy body parts, can cause damage that will impact children for the rest of their lives. Too often these risks go unknown to the patients and their parents as ideological concerns and profit seeking trump long-term health. Parents across the Natural State are grateful to Senator Gary Stubblefield, Representative Mary Bentley and the entire General Assembly for working together to protect Arkansas’ children with this legislation. Grassroots Arkansans applaud their efforts and thank Governor Sanders for strengthening parental rights and prioritizing our children’s health.”
