Governor Brian Kemp Signs SB 222 into Law to Close Election Loopholes and Strengthen Election Integrity

Press Releases · May 4, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Georgians, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson commending the Georgia Governor Brian Kemp for signing into law SB 222, legislation that closes the loophole in current election law by preventing outside money from being used to fund or manipulate state elections.

Following the Center for Tech and Civic Life’s attempt to skirt laws and inappropriately influence elections in DeKalb County with outside money, the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Kemp worked quickly to close loopholes and preserve Georgia’s election integrity. SB 222 ensures no outside money is being used to fund state elections, completely prohibiting local governments and officials from soliciting or accepting donations earmarked for election administration.

Heritage Action thanks the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Kemp for defending election integrity by passing and enacting SB 222. We commend Senator Max Burns for sponsoring this legislation and helping to ensure it is easy to vote and hard to cheat in the Peach State.”
