Washington—Earlier this week, the U.S. House passed legislation with 230 votes to extend federal funding of discretionary programs through February 16, 2018. Less than two hours before federal discretionary spending was set to expire, Senate Democrats voted to block that bill because it did not include amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. Heritage Action release the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Needham:
“Federal spending debates reveal a political party’s priorities. And now every American can see that the Democrat Party prioritizes amnesty for illegal immigrants above all else, including those serving in the military. President Trump and congressional Republicans should reject this left wing extremism and take this policy fight to the ballot box.”
A January 8, 2018 memo from the left-wing Center for American Progress Action Fund declared “Democrats should refuse to offer any votes for Republican spending bills that do not offer a fix for Dreamers and instead appropriate funds to deport them.” In a floor speech on October 4, 2013, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said:
“We are not in an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ world, where those who advocate shutting down the government then accuse others of shutting down the government. That is not washing with the American people, and it will not wash in this body with the vast majority of Members on both sides of the aisle.”
