WASHINGTON — Heritage Action released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson responding to today’s confirmation hearing for David Weil:
“President Biden’s nomination of David Weil to be Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division at the Department of Labor shows that this administration is more focused on taking away an individual’s right to negotiate their own labor contracts than following current law as set by Congress.
David Weil held the same position during the Obama administration, which he used to attack independent contractors and franchise employees by circumventing Congress to essentially enact parts of the PRO Act. To make matters worse, since leaving office, Weil has been teaching social policy and serving as a dean at Brandeis University, where he has pushed critical race theory and Marxist thought on students. Weil “recommended” resources to students including “In Defense of Looting,” which argues for “mass expropriation of property,” and “Black Lives Matter to Black Liberation” which calls for “a Marxist path forward out of the current political upheaval.”
Americans cannot afford nominees who will promote or implement racist CRT ideology and Marxist materials, particularly in a department that affects the working lives of every American. The Senate should reject this radical nominee.”
