Congress Should Fight for Border Security and Emergency Border Funding

Press Releases · Jun 17, 2019

Washington—Heritage Action released the following statement from Vice President Jessica Anderson:

The Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the White House’s request for $4.5 billion in emergency border funding this week, as reports continue that Speaker Pelosi is also involved in the negotiations.

Republicans and Democrats both know we have a real, urgent crisis at the border, but the liberal wing of the Democratic Party has refused to take action to secure the border and put an end to this humanitarian crisis. They would rather hold humanitarian aid hostage than allocate much-needed emergency funds for law enforcement, border security and humanitarian relief.

Now is not the time for the White House or congressional Republicans to cave on any liberal demands and sacrifice our national security. Any agreement should both secure the border and address the humanitarian crisis.
