Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act is the First Step in a Bold Pro-Life Agenda for the 118th Congress

Press Releases · Jan 11, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson supporting the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act as the first of many pro-life legislative priorities in the 118th Congress.

“Over the last several years, conservatives have fought repeatedly for the consideration of the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act, but have been met with continued resistance from the pro-abortion Left. Today, conservatives can mark their first pro-life victory in the 118th Congress by passing this legislation to ensure that infants who survive botched abortion attempts receive life-saving medical care.

Both state and federal data confirm that babies can and often do survive abortion attempts. In addition to protecting these babies from infanticide, this legislation will establish criminal consequences for abortion providers who fail to give born-alive babies appropriate medical care and a chance at life. Without clear enforcement provisions for these abortion providers, survivors could be left vulnerable and neglected, especially in so-called abortion sanctuary states.

Heritage Action encourages all Representatives to support the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act as the first of many initiatives from the 118th Congress to protect life. We look forward to working alongside conservatives in Congress and grassroots activists across the country to advocate for even more of our stated pro-life policy goals, such as ending taxpayer funding for abortions. These goals include other specific policy proposals, like the Conscience Protection Act, the SAVE Moms and Babies Act, the Protecting Individuals with Down Syndrome Act, and, ultimately, the Heartbeat Protection Act.”
