WASHINGTON — Heritage Action, a national conservative grassroots organization, released a statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson responding to the Department of Justice’s new lawsuit against Texas over the Texas Heartbeat Act:
“Attorney General Merrick Garland is using the Justice Department to attempt to block a Texas law that rightfully protects the lives of unborn babies whose hearts are already beating. This is simply the latest overreach from a politicized Justice Department that prioritizes Biden’s extreme politics over the rule of law.
Last year, the Biden campaign promised Americans a nonpolitical Justice Department. Instead, Biden and Garland have weaponized the DOJ against Texas for its Heartbeat Act and against Georgia for its election integrity law, smearing Georgians as racist for supporting common-sense practices like voter ID.
Biden and Garland’s true priorities are clear: instead of protecting Americans from soaring crime, they are using an army of unelected bureaucrats to intimidate state legislatures, consolidate power in the federal bureaucracy, and subject Americans to a far-Left policy agenda. Congress should immediately work to rein in Attorney General Garland’s abuse of the DOJ and protect our citizens, our states, and the rule of law.”
