Arizona Senate Kicks Off Session with Fight for Parental Rights

Press Releases · Jan 18, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, released the following statement from Executive Director Jessica Anderson supporting S.B. 1001, legislation which would protect the rights of parents, students, and staff by ensuring that school districts only address students by the pronouns consistent with their biological sex, unless parents give the school written permission to do otherwise.

“Especially as the Left continues to push their radical gender ideology in school systems across the country, parents have a right to know what is going on in their children’s classrooms. S.B. 1001 is an important step to protecting parental rights in Arizona by ensuring school systems obtain parental consent before changing a student’s gender pronouns. The legislation would also protect school employees from violations of their religious or deeply-held beliefs.

After Governor Hobbs’s State of the State Address threatened to roll back the progress made on parental rights and education freedom, bills like S.B. 1001 are more important now than ever. Thank you to Arizona Senator Kavanagh for sponsoring S.B. 1001 and fighting for parents and children in the public education system. Heritage Action urges the Arizona Senate to pass this important legislation and looks forward to working alongside grassroots Arizonans to advocate for education freedom and parental rights in the Grand Canyon State.”
