Press Releases · May 16, 2023

WASHINGTON – Heritage Action, a conservative grassroots organization with two million grassroots activists, including thousands of Arizonans, released the following statement from Janae Stracke, Vice President of Field Operations, commending the Arizona Legislature’s passage of HB 2416, legislation that protects government workers, state contractors, and public universities from phone applications sharing and storing their personal data with hostile foreign powers.

With the growing threat of non-consensual data sharing and surveillance from phone apps like TikTok, it’s more important than ever to protect sensitive government information from hostile foreign countries like China. Arizona state data falling into the hands of international adversaries would create a detrimental national security threat. By passing HB 2416, legislation that prohibits TikTok and other phone applications linked to hostile foreign powers, the Arizona Legislature is safeguarding sensitive information in an age where technology spreads it everywhere.

Heritage Action thanks the Arizona Legislature for protecting vital government information from being obtained and released to hostile countries and passing HB 2416. We look forward to working alongside grassroots Americans to protect U.S. data and preserve national security.”
