"YES" on Full Repeal of Obamacare
This week, the House will vote on the Repealing the Affordable Care Act (H.R. 45), introduced by Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-Minn.). Obamacare was supposed to lower health care costs, but as Heritage warned, it has produced the exact opposite result. Healthcare costs and premiums have risen and will continue to rise while the quality of care is diminished until the law is repealed.
In light of the recent Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax scandal and gross abuse of its power, it has become all the more necessary to repeal Obamacare. The law gives the IRS massive new authority, as it relies heavily on the IRS to implement the law's massive new tax scheme. In fact, Obamacare has at least 42 provisions adding to or amending the tax code. As past experience indicates, the IRS could use its newfound powers to target their political opponents.
Obamacare, "the boldest attempt at government central planning in American history," gives federal officials power over nearly every facet of Americans' health care decisions, from the type of health plans they are allowed to choose, to benefits and level of coverage insurance companies can offer, to what is permissible for insurers in terms of administrative costs, profit levels, and premiums.
Moreover, in its newest analysis, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that the cost of the law will be $1.8 trillion, double what President Obama asserted in 2010.
Additionally, the law:
- puts tens of millions of American at risk of losing their employer-sponsored health insurance;
- creates a 15-member, unelected and unaccountable Independent Payment Advisory Board tasked with saving money, but their recommendations will lead to healthcare rationing, and;
- spends taxpayer money to fund plans that cover abortion, and forces those with religious, moral or ethical beliefs to pay an abortion premium.
The Medicaid expansion will add more people to the rolls of an already failing program. The promise of more money for the states is just that, a promise that will be proven false just like so many others made during the Obamacare debate. Starting next year, the exchanges will be used to funnel subsidies to government-controlled health plans. Whether the states choose to implement a state-run exchange or opt for the federally facilitated exchange, the states would be acting as vendors to HHS and would regulate insurers.
The left, including Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the key architect of the law, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), has begrudgingly conceded that the health law is a "train wreck." Once the law is fully implemented, and Americans are entrenched in its socialist levels of control, it will be much more difficult to undo the damage. It is incumbent upon lawmakers to act before the wrecked train plummets over a cliff.
