"NO" on Shaheen Amendment to Defense Reauthorization
Today, the Senate could vote on a Shaheen amendment to S. 1867, the Department of Defense Authorization. The amendment would permit DOD funds to be used for abortions in certain cases. Currently, DOD funding for an abortion is only available when necessary to save the mother's life.
The Shaheen amendment would expand the circumstances under which DOD funds could be used. Taxpayers should not be compelled to fund these abortions.
Heritage Action opposes the Shaheen amendment and will include it as a key vote on our scorecard.
