Amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill

Amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill

Later this week, the House will vote on H.R. 1540, the Fiscal Year 2012 Defense Authorization. Of the 152 amendments, Heritage Action will be key voting the following:

"NO" on the Lee/Stark Amendment #171

The amendment would return the Department of Defense spending to 2008 levels, with exemptions for personnel and health accounts. Cutting defense spending would undermine our national security.

"YES" on Flake Amendment #22

The amendment would repeal the establishment of the National Drug Intelligence Center, which is a infamous duplicative drug enforcement agency. If we want to cut waste, fraud and abuse from every agency, this is the way to start.

"NO" on Amash Amendment #155

The amendment would strike section 1034 of the bill, which affirms the United States is engaged in an armed conflict with al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces and that those entities continue to pose a threat to the United States and its citizens.

Heritage Action will include the amendments as key votes in our scorecard.
