Democrats Support Election Security Until They Don’t
After spending years arguing for more election security, Democrats are pushing legislation that would decimate the safeguards we currently have.
DEMOCRATS DEMANDED ELECTION SECURITY FOR YEARS
In recent years, Democrats have repeatedly emphasized the importance of election security.
- Sen. Chuck Schumer repeatedly demanded that the Senate act on election security.
In the lead up to the 2020 election, Schumer tweeted at least 50 times on the need to strengthen “election security.”
Schumer in 2020: “Senate Democrats are taking to the floor today to demand election security legislation.”
Schumer in 2019: “election security is necessary…if Americans don’t believe their elections are on the up-and-up, woe is us as a country and as a democracy”
Schumer in 2019: “We want to secure our elections. There’s nothing partisan about that.”
Then-Sen. Kamala Harris in 2019: “it’s never been more urgent to secure our elections.”
Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats launched a task force dedicated to “election security.”
Sen. Durbin on the importance of election security: “I want an election to truly reflect the way the American people feel about candidates and issues that are before them.”
Sen. Jeff Merkley, a leading sponsor of the “For the People Act” in the Senate, emphasized that “the American people are calling out for election integrity.”
Sen. Ron Wyden asserted that “Any failure to secure our elections amounts to disenfranchising American voters.”
Sen. Jon Tester stressed the importance of election security, “we need to act now to ensure that our elections remain free of outside influence.”
NOW DEMOCRATS WANT TO DEMOLISH ELECTION SAFEGUARDS
- After talking incessantly about election security, Democrats are now pushing H.R.1/S.1, the Corrupt Politicians Act, which would cancel election safeguards put in place by states.
Democrats claim H.R.1/S.1 will strengthen election security, it would do the exact opposite.
- H.R.1/S.1 would effectively cancel voter ID laws widely supported by the American people and put in place by 36 states.
Recent polling shows 75% of Americans in favor of voter ID.
Democrats’ legislation would roll back safeguards against ballot harvesting, or vote trafficking, which is highly vulnerable to rampant fraud and abuse.
- H.R. 1 would force states to adopt reckless registration policies while restricting their ability to remove ineligible voters and require IDs at polls, creating a disaster for election security.
This legislation would force states to adopt same day registration that gives election officials little to no time to verify information.
States would be forced to adopt automatic voter registration using databases like unemployment and food stamp rolls.
Democrats want to eliminate photo ID and witness signature requirements that help protect the integrity of absentee ballots.
