Jobs Disappearing: Congress Needs to Defund Obamacare

Time flies, doesn’t it?  It’s March of 2013.  Blink your eyes, and it will be 2014, and that is the year  Obamacare’s most egregious provisions become entrenched.

When you open your eyes, there are two possibilities for how America will look.  One where Obamacare has been repealed – or at least delayed and defunded – and one where Obamacare’s socialist jaws have clenched down hard on the American people and healthcare system.

Lawmakers will not be able to say they weren’t warned of Obamacare’s damages, and without defunding Obamacare before it’s too late, we’ll all have to watch Obamacare on steroids unleashed full force.

Today Heritage points out 10 stories of job loss as a consequence of Obamacare.  They explain:

As employers and businesses prepare for Obamacare’s sweeping changes and mandates to begin in 2014, many are already laying off some of their employees.

Just a couple of examples are the 1,000 jobs that were lost in the Stryker Corporation thanks to Obamacare and at least 7,386 full-time jobs turned part time in Virginia thanks to Obamacare.

The job cuts they identified result from a few different aspects of Obamacare, the medical device tax, Medicare payment cuts, and the employer mandate.

Not only will thousands upon thousands of jobs be lost, but healthcare costs will skyrocket even as quality of care plummets.  That’s what government-directed industry does.

That is why Obamacare should be repealed.  There are good ideas for real reforms that would empower patients, parents and doctors, not bureaucrats and bean counters.  Heritage’s Saving the American Dream plan shows what freedom looks like.

In the meantime, the Cruz Amendment to the Senate’s Continuing Resolution would defund Obamacare, which is critical if Obamacare is to be stopped in its tracks.  If the Senate votes on this amendment, Heritage Action will key vote in favor of it.   Those people who are losing or have already lost their jobs would expect nothing less.

  1. Many conservatives recognize time is running short to delay the implementation of Obamacare:

On October 1, 2013, open enrollment begins for the federally backed health care exchanges. On January 1, 2014, new money from Washington will begin flowing to states and individuals, all but ensuring that these new entitlements will become a permanent fixture of life in America. The window of opportunity to stop the implementation of these massive new subsidies is closing.

Obamacare will force millions of Americans out of their existing plans; in fact, it is already happening. Republicans in Congress, many who were elected in 2010 and 2012 based on their opposition to Obamacare, must defund Obamacare before it is too late.

The path to balance is not paved with Obamacare. If lawmakers do not believe the forthcoming continuing resolution (CR) is “the best vehicles possible to delay the implementation of Obamacare,” they must put forth a real alternative to stopping the law’s implementation. Standing idle when action is needed is not leadership.

  2. Defunding and repealing Obamacare is definitely a step in the right direction, **but it is not enough.** The real threat to our children’s future is the precedent the Roberts’ Decision sets, which of course allows for the combining of cooperate money and government coercion to make us do anything they wish. All efforts to repeal and defund, unfortunately, only address the symptom and not the cancer.

There is although one last hope to end not just the Obamacare assault on the health care industry, but also to end the ominous and definite effects the Roberts’ decision will have on future generations as government and corporations combine to force American citizens to do just about anything by way of the taxation.

It is called the Mandate Amendment to the US Constitution – short, simple, and common sense:

“Congress shall make no law mandating the purchase of a product or service from a private entity”.

This is a bold and courageous effort to strike at the heart of this precedent now while much of our country is appalled by the decision and the infrastructure and dependence upon the law is not sewn into the fabric of our country. If we build a coalition now, we will be poised to have candidates pledge support as they run against incumbents next midterm election. We believe in the next election the Democrats will be out of excuses for a failing economy and the country will be well positioned for candidates that favor American principles and therefore this Amendment.

Please join us, this is our last hope. Just Google Mandate Amendment for more information or find us on Facebook and Twitter.
