Obamacare’s Unhealthy Diagnosis
In a recent article on Obamacare, the Heritage Foundation’s Ed Feulner gave Obamacare an unfortunate but realistic diagnosis for its third annual checkup.
Obamacare received several bad diagnoses. But that’s no surprise. The decisions Obamacare’s made for the past three years and the decisions made by those who conceived it were just bad ones. All of that contributed to Obamacare’s current unhealthy state.
Obamacare has many defects. Among them are the insurance premium increases, as Dr. Feulner explains:
I see that insurance premiums are going to skyrocket under you. It’s those coverage mandates you put in place; they’re the culprit. According to a congressional report by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, some premiums are set to rise in every state. Yes, every state, and not by small amounts. In many states, they’re primed to go up by more than 50 percent; in others, by more than 100 percent. It’s all as a result of changes you’ve introduced.
Obamacare’s been in denial about its condition for quite a long time, so it decided to get a second opinion.
Even Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that “there may be a higher cost associated with getting into that market” where “folks will be moving into a really fully insured product for the first time.”
What’s most unfortunate about this picture is that, though it could have been prevented had real conservative reforms been put in place, now Obamacare’s diseases are going to spread throughout America harming millions of people. Obamacare has never enjoyed majority support, and it’s likely to become increasingly unpopular as premiums soar.
Ultimately, Obamacare should be defunded, repealed, and replaced.
