New Tone in Washington

Five Senate Democrat Leaders sent a letter to Speaker Boehner, promising to block a repeal of Obamacare:

“If House Republicans move forward with a repeal of the health care law that threatens consumer benefits like the “donut hole” fix, we will block it in the Senate. This proposal deserves a chance to work. It is too important to be treated as collateral damage in a partisan mission to repeal health care.” See the full letter.

Speaker Boehner’s response terse response represents a new tone to this debate.

Roll call reported Boehner’s letter in full:

Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow:

Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion.

The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now. You’re welcome.

– Speaker-Designate John Boehner’s Press Office

The battle to repeal Obamacare will involve many interactions between the House and the Senate, if this statement represents the House’s approach, it is a positive sign.

  1. A big light needs to be shown on the damage that has been done to our health and the lives of many Americans by the big pharmacutical companies practices. The current and past practices are/have been conitributing to much of our nation’s health care and health care network’s woes and costs.
Thanks. Please share this with all concerned.

  3. Wow…what a response by Boehner! Like they say, “what goes around, comes around” and I’d say the democrats are now getting theirs. This whole thing will get very interesting when Obama vetoes this bill, literally telling Americans for the SECOND time, “I know better than you do…”
